Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “küçümencik sindirilebilirler”) teşhismlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bağlanmasıyla oluşan kesik polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit sözıntısı ile diğeri arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok adetda polipeptit alt birimi çitndırır). Esas başkalık peptitlerin kesik, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino asit, diğer amino asite kadimî, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bağlanır. Polipeptid mimarisına taşlıklan amino asitlerin her biri mimariya peptid bağlarıyla bağlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir akarsu çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Yaklaşık bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Malum en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine taşlıklan amino asitlere sözıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki sözıntı, bağ yapmamış, sere serpe amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin diğer ucundaki sere serpe α-karboksil grubu olan sözıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
